Statement

Ouroboros plays with the fundamentals of drawing by transforming paper, line, and gesture into both medium and subject. The paper is traditionally seen as a neutral support for marks and words. In this work the paper thread passes through a hollowed pencil making a circular gesture, indicating that paper can be both support and content.

With this work, I invite viewers to reconsider drawing as a process where material, mark, and meaning are inseparable, asserting the centrality of paper in art.

Ouroboros joue avec les principes fondamentaux du dessin en transformant le papier, la ligne et le geste à la fois en support et en sujet. Le papier est traditionnellement considéré comme un support neutre pour les marques et les mots. Dans cette œuvre, le fil de papier, qui passe à travers un crayon évidé faisant un geste circulaire, indique que le papier peut être à la fois support et contenu.

Avec cette œuvre, Karen Trask nous invite à reconsidérer le dessin comme un processus où la matière, la marque et le sens sont inséparables, affirmant ainsi la place centrale du papier dans l’art.
