Description

Mmmmm is a short stop-motion video. The video starts with a long straight wire entering the frame from the left. The white background of video frame is a sheet of paper which has a small hole punctured in the middle. The wire slowly enters and then disappears into the mouth-like opening. It comes out again bent into a series of m-shaped letters. These eventually form a circle and leave the screen. The lighting is direct and a shadow is very present. There is a sound track of four female voices improvising with the sound “em”, the predominant voice is singer and actor Loretta Bailey.

Statement

Mmmmm is a humourous look at the letter ‘m’. Linguistic studies consider it as possibly the first phoneme for human language. M being the sound babies make when nursing.
