Description
Paysage nocturne II is video projection loop. It begins with a shadow profile of a man’s head. A woman’s hand enters the frame at the base of the profile’s head and slowly traces the outline of the shadow.
Statement
Paysage nocturne II is one of two works, Paysage nocturne I and Paysage nocturne II created for the group exhibition, En obscurité curated by Aseman Sabat and presented at Les Territoires, Montreal in 2011.
I was thinking about the Greek myth of the origins of painting. Dibutades, a young woman in Corinth was looking for a way to preserve the image of her lover who was leaving on a long voyage. With the help of a lamp, casting the shadow of his profile on the wall, she traced the outline of his face.
