Description
Elle is a stop-motion animation in which we see a string enter the frame forming the loops of the four letters of the word “elle” (the French word for “she”). The two L’s then separate to form a winged butterfly-shape that then seems to fly out of the frame. The video was shot in the artist’s Montréal living room using the natural light coming in the window, as a result we can see the shadows of moving trees and hear the ambient sounds of the city and birds.
It is one of three videos in the Sweet Nothings / Petits riens video triptych.
Statement
Elle was inspired by a homonym, two words with the same prononciation and two meanings. “Elle” meaning “she” in French and “ailes” meaning “wings”.
