Description

In the work Missel (Prayerbook), all the pages from a small prayer book or “missel” were cut into strips and spun into paper threads. These were woven and knotted together to create a lace-like mandala with a cross shape in the centre.

Statement

Missel (Prayerbook) is part of a series of works dismantling books and spinning the pages into paper threads to recreate tapestries and sculptures. For this work, I was thinking of the meditative value of the words in a prayer book being repeated and fingers holding each bead of a rosary as the prayers were spoken or whispered quietly to oneself.
