Description

The Shadow of the Earth is an installation of handmade pigmented papers. Made to measure, thin sheets of paper were glued row by row to the bricks of the building over the summer months. The work is part of the group exhibition, Emprunter Alexandra-Marconi curated by Lynn Hughes and Francine Lalonde, for exhibition at Produit Rien from October 15 to November 2, 2025.

Statement

The Shadow of the Earth is a representation of a real phenomenon also known as an umbra. When the sun is below the horizon, either just before rising or just after setting and on condition that the sky is clear, the sun will briefly project a shadow of the earth on the opposite sky. Desiring to showcase the strength and vibrancy of paper, it will be interesting to see how Mother Nature collaborates with this ephemeral work.
